Mounds State Park provides holiday spirit with annual light show

Nov. 20—ANDERSON — Sixty spectacular displays and warm holiday cheer, all from the comfort of your own car.

Logistics Coordinator for the shows said events will continue every weekend throughout the month of December, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Guests will not be charged park admission. Meyer said Nov.-Feb., the state doesn’t charge guests admission, saying it cuts down labor costs.

Upon paying at the camp store, guests will be on their way to happy holiday camping trails.

Businesses, churches, and other community organizations are sponsoring decorations.

Last year, they had around 4,260 cars drive through.

The event was serves as a way to get folks in the holiday mood and raise funds for the park’s many activities.

Folks will have the opportunity to decorate gingerbread cookies and create crafts to take home, all day, Dec. 10.

Santa, Mrs. Clause, and an elf will be visiting guests at Mounds State Park, Dec. 16 and 17. Cars will be greeted by trio on their way to the camp store. Guests may pull aside, if they wish to take a picture with Santa.

Light displays have been an American staple since 1880. Lights were hung outside Thomas Edison’s laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey, according to the Library of Congress.
